For the first time i read a newspaper on Saturday, 17 Nov '07 and i found something that caught my eye..

it sounds so similar to me.. and i feel that what she said makes sense..

go figure..

i read this column sexless in the city by simone heng and the title attracts my attention..

I'm ready to go solo till i meet mr right

i started writing this column in April 2006 and it has always been something more than "sex".

it is the search for a person who "ticks all the boxes" and transcends the sea of chance meetings and dates which i seem to go on.

But after two years of searching, i forgot why i was even looking in the first place.

In the wild race for a mate, i actually became quite independent.

i learned how to cheer myself up and how to carry myself at all sorts of events without a partner!

So the other night when i took a guy i had been dating to a BBQ, i asked myself: why did you take him along?

you are not even speaking to the poor bloke because you are busy meeting new people and catching up with old friends while he is just sitting there under the patio eating steaks!

The thought of holding a guy's hand in public is scary for me.

i found myself standing 2 metres from this dude, almost displaying my "singleness" and that's not right.

or is it?

Should i not be showing others that this person and i are a little bit "more than friends"?

Then it hit me.

I love my mobility, i love having my carefully arranged days, getting my work done on time and rewarding myself now and again with a good book and my J Lo DVD-blasting - all these are done ALONE.

Blissfully alone, i really don't need a man.

Bonus

I am perfectly happy without a partner because i finally realised (although i used to say it to myself but didn't actually believe it) that a partner is but a bonus added to a fully-developed and self-sufficient Simone Heng.

As the song goes." I don't need a man to make me feel good, i get off being free!"

In contrast, i have a girlfriend who can never be alone.

Her self-esteem is bound to a man's appreciation of her.

She goes from one man to another and the men she chooses are neither brillantly handsome nor accomplished.

Rather, they are THERE!

They are willing to country-hop for her, following her aid to her career and give her a sense of security.

When she is single, she is with many men until she lands aupon one who wants her for more than a casual affair and then she is hitched.

she cuts off all contacts with friends and she lives in a bubble with HER man!

I am not saying that this is bad, she seems perfectly happy on the outside, but it got me thinking about my own dating habits.

i have also, at times, slid into thinking security was a better option, especially in my industry where your ego takes a slam every other day, so a buffer is nice.

but comfort is not the answer to a woman's woes.

So as i look around the BBQ that night, i made a firm resolve to attend everything i can alone, to walk alone until i meet the man whose hand i cannot resist taking in mine to tell the world that we are together.

thats all..

don't u think it makes sense..??
